Bone Marrow
Indus held a fundraiser at a local restaurant named Namaste and a Bone Marrow Drive in hopes of helping former Cal student Vinay Chakravarthy find a matching donor. With little time left, Vinay and his wife Rashmi have been facing some pretty disheartening odds; there just are not enough South Asians in the bone marrow registry. It turns out that only 1% of the 6 million bone marrow donors are South Asian. While a Caucasian can find 15 matching donors, a South Asian will most likely find 0. In fact, South Asians have a 1 in 20,000 chance of finding a matching donor.
